Shipment lead
IDC's final Q2 2026 table ranks Samsung first, with 62.7 million branded shipments, 22.7 percent share, and an 8.1 percent increase from a year earlier. The same table puts the whole market at 276.3 million units, down 7.4 percent. IDC's company line is the parent for brands it owns and operates as subsidiaries.
The company behind the phones
The half-year report says Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. was established as Samsung Electronics Industry Co., Ltd. on January 13, 1969, and gives the headquarters address as 129, Samsung-ro, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do, Korea. The IR FAQ says the company was listed on the Korea Stock Exchange on June 11, 1975, and that its fiscal year is the calendar year. The FAQ says the DX Division's products include HHPs, which includes smartphones. The board list names two division CEOs, not one group CEO: Young-Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman and CEO of the DS Division, and Tae-Moon Roh, President and CEO of the DX Division.
Second quarter of 2026
For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, Samsung reported KRW 171.5 trillion of consolidated revenue and KRW 89.5 trillion of operating profit. The DS Division posted KRW 127.5 trillion of revenue and KRW 89.2 trillion of operating profit. The MX and Networks businesses posted KRW 33.2 trillion of consolidated revenue and an operating loss of KRW 0.7 trillion. The release attributes MX and Networks revenue growth to Galaxy S26 and Galaxy A sales, and the earnings decline to component costs. Those MX figures include Networks. They are not a separate MX-only loss.
Headcount scope
The half-year report's employee note is explicit about scope. It is a separate-basis count for the domestic headquarters in Korea, including people on leave and excluding 8 registered executives. The average number of employees on that basis was 125,890, of whom 93,292 were male and 32,598 were female. That is not a global consolidated workforce, so it is not stored as the company employee fact.
What to watch
The results release says that in the second half of 2026 the MX business plans flagship-first share growth centered on the Galaxy Z8 and S26 series. Whether the MX and Networks operating loss narrows, on the combined basis Samsung actually reports, is the phone-business question in that release.
