Who shipped phones in Q2 2026
IDC's final historical table for the second quarter of 2026, sourced to its Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker of August 6 and updated on the page on September 17, puts global shipments at 276.3 million units, down 7.4 percent from a year earlier. Samsung shipped 62.7 million (22.7 percent, up 8.1 percent) and Apple 55.7 million (20.2 percent, up 14.9 percent). Xiaomi shipped 31.2 million (11.3 percent, down 26.4 percent) and OPPO 28.9 million (10.5 percent, down 17.1 percent). vivo was fifth at 21.2 million and is not in this first set.
IDC counts branded shipments and excludes OEM sales. It says the company is the parent for brands owned and operated as subsidiaries. The page does not list those brands under OPPO, so membership here follows the four parent names in the table.
Fewer units, more value
On the same page IDC forecasts, rather than reports, a 16.7 percent drop in 2026 shipments to just over 1 billion units, and a 6.3 percent rise in market value to $613 billion. The forecast average selling price is $581, up 27.6 percent. Android shipments are forecast down 24.3 percent. iOS share is forecast at 23.6 percent, with iOS shipments down 1.3 percent. HarmonyOS is forecast to nearly triple, to 51 million units, from a small base. These are IDC forecasts, not company guidance.
Premium phones and foldables
IDC describes a market split by memory cost: Samsung and Apple gained share, while vendors exposed to low-priced phones cut shipments. Foldables are the forecast exception, up 12.6 percent to 22.9 million units in 2026, which IDC ties to an Apple foldable entry in the second half of 2026. That entry is a forecast. This industry does not list a foldable iPhone as a shipping product. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 is profiled on the company page from Samsung's own July 22, 2026 announcement.
What to watch
The next official readings are whether the entry tier keeps shrinking, whether Samsung and Apple hold the top two shipment spots, and whether Xiaomi's and OPPO's second-quarter declines persist into later IDC tables. IDC also forecasts more than 17 million foldable iPhones by 2027. That number is a forecast. Company revenue, where it is disclosed, is not comparable across these four: Apple reports a fiscal quarter in dollars, Samsung a calendar quarter in won, Xiaomi a fiscal half in renminbi, and OPPO does not disclose revenue.
