Anthropic launches Claude Opus 5 at half its flagship's price
Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 on July 24, a model it says approaches the frontier intelligence of its top-tier Claude Fable 5 at half the cost, priced at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, the same price as the Opus 4.8 model it replaces. The company positioned Opus 5 as the default everyday choice for agentic coding, knowledge work, computer use and complex reasoning, where it scores higher than Opus 4.8, and added a control that lets users dial the model's effort between low, medium and high. Fable 5 remains Anthropic's most capable public model, with a restricted Mythos 5 tier sitting above both.
