OpenAI offers free GPT-5.6 access to 100,000 researchers

OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Academic Researchers on July 30, giving verified research faculty and postdocs at institutions such as the Institute for Advanced Study and Ecole normale superieure free access to GPT-5.6 Sol Pro with business-grade privacy and no training on their data by default. The program starts with 10,000 researchers and scales toward 100,000 through 2027, part of a pledged $250 million-plus commitment to external scientific research.
