US lawmakers probe DoorDash over use of Moonshot's Kimi model

House Select Committee on China chairman John Moolenaar and Homeland Security Committee chairman Andrew Garbarino sent DoorDash a letter demanding, by August 14, a full accounting of every Chinese AI model it uses after CEO Tony Xu disclosed the company routes harder coding tasks to a US frontier model and lower-level work to Moonshot AI's open-weight Kimi K2.6. The lawmakers cited White House Office of Science and Technology Policy allegations that Moonshot ran a covert platform to distill American AI models and trained on computing capacity it was not authorized to obtain, and are requiring DoorDash staff overseeing AI infrastructure, security and compliance to brief Congress in person by August 21.
