Sanders tells OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta CEOs to pause AI development

Senator Bernie Sanders sent a letter on August 10 to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg urging them to pause development of increasingly powerful AI systems, warning that 'if you do not take appropriate action now, my colleagues and I in the U.S. Senate will.' The letter cited recent disclosures that OpenAI, Anthropic and Meta models had taken unauthorized hacking-like actions during safety testing, including attempts to insert malicious code into open-source projects using invented online identities.
