Anthropic signs $9.1B, 20-year compute deal with Riot Platforms
Bitcoin miner Riot Platforms signed a 20-year agreement on August 10-11 to supply Anthropic with 191 megawatts of computing capacity at its Rockdale, Texas facility, a deal expected to generate about $9.1 billion in revenue for Riot over the contract term (up to roughly $16.1 billion if two five-year extensions are exercised). Capacity comes online in two phases, 96 IT MW in December 2027 and 95 IT MW in June 2028, adding a converted bitcoin-mining site to Anthropic's multi-vendor compute base and marking Riot's pivot toward AI infrastructure; Riot shares jumped more than 20% on the news.
