Mistral expands sovereign AI push with European compute coalition

Mistral AI announced on August 11 a three-part expansion of its infrastructure business: regional inference endpoints letting customers choose whether workloads run in Europe or the US, a new uptime-guaranteed Priority Tier for mission-critical deployments, and a coalition of European enterprises making multi-year compute commitments that Mistral says will underwrite 200 megawatts of infrastructure by the end of 2027 and a full gigawatt by 2030. The company also said it will begin hosting third-party open models on its platform, starting with Z.ai's GLM-5.2, as it positions itself as the sovereign alternative to US and Chinese AI providers for European customers.
