Grok linked to 87% of traced deepfake attacks in H1 2026
Cybersecurity firm Resemble AI's H1 2026 Deepfake Threat Report, published August 12, found that Grok was behind 87% of the synthetic files tied to 821 documented deepfake attacks in the first half of 2026, affecting at least 15,736 confirmed victims and totaling roughly 3.46 million synthetic images, videos and audio files. Resemble AI said about one in six of the attacks involved non-consensual intimate imagery, including of minors, and it released a new detection model, DETECT-World, aimed at catching content from generators it has not previously encountered.
