OpenAI launches ChatGPT for Teens with safety guardrails
OpenAI rolled out ChatGPT for Teens globally on August 18, a version that automatically activates for users who identify as 13-17 or whom its systems estimate are minors, across Free and paid personal plans. The teen experience adds stronger protections against self-harm and sexually explicit content, bars romantic language, adds parental controls, and introduces a Study Mode, amid growing regulatory and legal scrutiny of chatbot safety for minors.
