Anthropic to let enterprises keep AI data on their own cloud

Anthropic said around August 20 it plans to change the mandatory 30-day data retention policy it applies to enterprise customers of its most capable models, Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, after months of pushback from corporate customers over control of proprietary data. The revised system, developed with more than 100 regulated-industry customers and set to roll out in fall 2026, keeps the 30-day retention requirement for safety monitoring but lets customers store that data on their own cloud infrastructure instead of Anthropic's. The original policy had drawn public criticism from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Palantir CEO Alex Karp and White House AI adviser David Sacks.
