Unitree founder sees humanoid robots' 'ChatGPT moment' years away
Speaking at the World Robot Conference in Beijing on August 19, Unitree founder Wang Xingxing said humanoid robots are approaching a 'ChatGPT moment' but a true breakthrough, defined as a robot completing about 80% of voice-commanded tasks in an unfamiliar home, is likely two to three years away in an optimistic case or five to ten years in a conservative one. Global humanoid robot shipments reached about 19,000 units in the first half of 2026, up 272% year over year, with Chinese makers accounting for 97% of sales.
