OpenAI launches ChatGPT for Healthcare with Epic EHR access
OpenAI announced on September 1, 2026 that healthcare organizations can connect Epic electronic health record environments to ChatGPT for Healthcare, bringing authorized patient context, such as appointment notes, lab results and medications, into clinician conversations. A companion Healthcare Public Data plugin consolidates connectors to nine official public sources including PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, CMS Coverage, RxNorm and DailyMed. In OpenAI's own testing across five connected data sources, more than 93% of responses were rated 'good' or better for accuracy.
