Anthropic researcher resigns after Hubinger doom warning

Jacob Coxon, a researcher who has worked at both Anthropic and OpenAI, resigned from Anthropic on September 8, 2026 and said the labs are racing to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with people's lives. Anthropic alignment lead Evan Hubinger replied that he personally puts the chance AI could kill all humans above 10 percent within a decade and that the company does not yet have a plan to solve alignment for superintelligence. Coxon's post was viewed more than 70 million times, CNBC reported September 9.
