OpenAI puts Agents API into public beta
OpenAI said on September 10, 2026 that the Agents API is in public beta for all developers, exposing the managed Codex harness that runs sessions, orchestration, context compaction and recovery. Developers pick an OpenAI-hosted sandbox or their own infrastructure, pay for tokens, tools and hosted-container use rather than a separate API fee, and work toward general availability. The API currently supports US data residency only and does not support Zero Data Retention.
