OpenAI backs FRONTIER Act audits and bio-data bills

OpenAI on September 15 endorsed three bipartisan bills it says will help keep AI models from accelerating biological-weapon and synthetic-virus threats: the Web of Biological Data Act, the AI-Ready Bio-Data Standards Act, and the Scale Biology Act. Chief Global Affairs Officer Chris Lehane also backed a key FRONTIER Act provision, sponsored by Reps. Jay Obernolte and Lori Trahan, that would require leading AI companies to embed independent evaluators, while a spokesperson said OpenAI has not endorsed that bill in full. The FRONTIER Act would also require model reports and safety-incident disclosure.
