Anthropic weighs new model as Astra takes share

Anthropic is considering releasing a new AI model to counter OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra, according to three people familiar with the matter, as it also weighs how a launch would sit against CEO Dario Amodei's September 12 call to slow capability releases. Reuters said Astra accounted for about 13% of enterprise AI spending tracked by Ramp versus about 8% for Claude Fable, and that OpenRouter users spent more on OpenAI than Anthropic last week for the first time in more than two and a half years. Two people said Anthropic could push its IPO to after the November US midterm elections; Anthropic declined to comment.
