Google funds 890 MW of Constellation nuclear uprates
Google and Constellation Energy said on Oct. 6 they signed a 20-year power purchase agreement to add 890 megawatts of new nuclear capacity to the PJM grid by uprating 11 reactors at six plants in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Constellation will invest more than $4.3 billion, with the first uprate expected by 2028 and the projects adding 890 MW before the end of 2032, plus a separate 15-year supply agreement for 2,700 MW from existing plants. Constellation also selected Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise under a five-year technology alliance. Google said it is the anchor customer so other grid customers do not bear the uprate costs; the companies did not disclose the PPA price.
