Waymo resumes freeway driving after construction-zone recall
Waymo said on July 29 it is gradually resuming freeway routes, starting in Phoenix, after voluntarily pulling its fleet off highways in May following a recall covering 3,871 vehicles over a software flaw that let robotaxis enter closed freeway construction zones. The company said additional cities will follow as it validates the fix, restoring faster routing options for riders that highway-eligible trips had offered before the pause.
