NHTSA opens suspension probe into 1.2 million Teslas
NHTSA opened a Preliminary Evaluation on July 31, 2026 into roughly 1.2 million Tesla Model 3 (2018-2020) and Model Y (2021-2023) vehicles over front lower lateral link failures, after receiving 156 complaints of sudden, unwarned loss of directional control. NHTSA said it is not aware of any related crashes, injuries, or fatalities; the investigation is a precursor step that can lead to a recall.
