Nvidia invests $5B in Ilya Sutskever's Safe Superintelligence
Nvidia agreed around July 27-28 to invest a reported $5 billion in Safe Superintelligence (SSI), the AI-safety lab co-founded by former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, and to give SSI access to its Vera Rubin compute platform for roughly a tenfold increase in available compute over the next 12 months. The deal moves SSI off the Google Cloud TPUs it had used since its 2024 founding and extends Nvidia's pattern of taking equity stakes in frontier AI labs that buy its chips, following prior stakes in OpenAI and Anthropic.
