Taiwan detains Nvidia employee in AI chip-smuggling probe

Taiwan's Keelung District Prosecutors' Office detained an Nvidia employee, surnamed Chang, on July 24 and searched his desk at Nvidia's Taipei office as part of a chip-diversion investigation opened in May. Prosecutors say the group, which also includes Super Micro staff and a person from Taiwan-listed Albatron Technology, is suspected of falsifying documents to route roughly 50 Super Micro servers containing advanced Nvidia chips to China via Japan; it is the first known legal action against an Nvidia employee in a chip-smuggling case, and prosecutors have not accused Nvidia itself of wrongdoing.
