CATL takes 49% stake in AI data center power supplier
CATL signed transaction documents on August 14 to inject about RMB4.1 billion (roughly $600 million) into Hangzhou Zhongheng Technology Investment, the controlling shareholder of data center power system and HVDC equipment maker Zhongheng Electric, taking a 49% stake and becoming its largest shareholder. The deal, paid mostly in cash plus an equity contribution, pushes CATL beyond batteries into the high-voltage direct current power infrastructure that AI data centers are increasingly adopting.
