Chinese state hackers doubled attacks after adopting DeepSeek

Taiwanese threat-intelligence firm TeamT5 said Chinese state-affiliated hacking groups now run roughly twice as many attacks as before they began delegating tasks to DeepSeek and other open-weight AI models, Bloomberg reported August 24. Researchers obtained scripts and logs showing DeepSeek used across multiple attack stages, including exploit-code generation and target reconnaissance, and said the model's combination of strong performance, low cost and weaker safety guardrails than many Western models makes it attractive to threat actors.
