Shield AI flies its Hivemind autonomy software in orbit

Shield AI, Sedaro and NOVI Space announced on August 24 the first on-orbit flight of Shield AI's Hivemind AI pilot, running aboard a NOVI satellite in low Earth orbit as the lead of a simulated six-satellite constellation. Over a 24-hour experiment validated by Sedaro's SAFE edge-safety framework, Hivemind autonomously generated and executed 189 commands covering imaging tasking, spacecraft health diagnostics, battery state of charge and pointing, without real-time ground operator intervention, marking Hivemind's first deployment beyond aircraft, ground vehicles and drone boats.
