OpenAI to cut off Cursor's model access after SpaceX deal

OpenAI said on August 29 it will end Cursor's access to its AI models on November 12, 2026, the maximum notice period allowed under its contract following a change of control, after Elon Musk's SpaceX closed its $60 billion acquisition of Cursor maker Anysphere on August 14. OpenAI cited Musk's history of contract disputes with OpenAI, including his sworn admission that xAI, now folded into SpaceX, had violated OpenAI's terms of service; Cursor CEO Michael Truell said OpenAI models account for about 5% of Cursor's user traffic.
