XPeng secures driverless robotaxi testing permit in Guangzhou

In its September 1, 2026 August-delivery release, XPeng said it had obtained a permit to test its second-generation VLA Robotaxi on designated Guangzhou roads without an onboard safety operator, a step toward its targeted 2027 fully driverless passenger launch. The Robotaxi has completed more than 2,000 internal test rides using a newly built cloud-based remote-intervention platform. XPeng delivered 39,107 vehicles in August, up 4% year over year and its second-highest month of 2026, though deliveries for the first eight months of the year remain down 10.49% from a year earlier.
