NuScale and MillenniTEK fabricate first-of-a-kind safety pellets
NuScale Power said on September 1, 2026 that it and manufacturing partner MillenniTEK have successfully fabricated first-of-a-kind boron-oxide pellets for the passive emergency core cooling system used in NuScale's small modular reactor design. Upon ECCS actuation, the pellets are designed to dissolve into the reactor coolant and help control core reactivity without operator intervention, a manufacturing milestone NuScale says advances the specialized components needed as it works toward commercial deployment of its NRC-approved SMR technology.
