DeepSeek plans 160,000-chip Huawei order for new data center

DeepSeek plans to deploy at least 160,000 of Huawei's next-generation Ascend 950DT accelerators at the gigawatt-scale data center it is building in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, Bloomberg reported September 4, 2026, in what could become one of the largest known clusters of Chinese AI chips. Huawei's production capacity is expected to limit 950DT output to the low hundreds of thousands of units this year, so delivery could take more than a year, and DeepSeek has reportedly asked Beijing to help secure faster, larger allocations. The chips are intended to run DeepSeek's models rather than train them, with training workloads still reliant on whatever Nvidia hardware the company can obtain.
