Congressman presses DOT over Tesla sleeping-driver videos

Representative Raja Krishnamoorthi wrote Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy on September 9, 2026 asking what NHTSA is doing about Autopilot and Full Self-Driving after an NBC News review found 43 videos of drivers who appear asleep in moving Teslas, 17 of them posted this year. The letter cites NHTSA engineering analysis EA26002 covering about 3.2 million FSD-equipped vehicles and gives Duffy until September 30 to answer. Krishnamoorthi also questioned a cabin message that says drowsiness was detected and tells the driver to stay focused with FSD.
