Mistral and TotalEnergies launch 3-year AI geoscience program
TotalEnergies and Mistral announced on September 15 a three-year joint program of more than 100 million euros to build frontier AI models, including agentic systems, for oil and gas reservoir exploration, characterization, and development. The companies will set up a joint scientific laboratory pairing TotalEnergies subsurface teams with Mistral, drawing on nearly 10 petaflops of data and about a century of geoscience know-how. Chairman Patrick Pouyanne said the work is meant to generate multiple development scenarios and to extend the life of existing projects.
