Lamar CISD advances Tesla Crystal Sun tax deal

Lamar Consolidated ISD trustees voted 7-0 on September 15 to move Tesla's $10.1 billion Project Crystal Sun JETI application forward, a proposed solar-cell and module factory on about 3,050 acres in Fort Bend County. The plant is projected to create 9,712 full-time jobs, with construction from 2026 to 2028 and commercial operations in the first quarter of 2029 if Tesla picks the Texas site. The application still needs the Texas governor's approval, and Tesla has not yet chosen Fort Bend over an out-of-state alternative.
