Waymo picks Singapore as its first Southeast Asia market

Waymo said on September 18 that it will open a fully autonomous, all-electric ride-hailing service to the public in Singapore in 2028, its first market in Southeast Asia and second confirmed Asian city after Tokyo in 2027. An initial fleet of Jaguar I-PACE vehicles arrives in the coming months for manual mapping and validation driving, with trained autonomous specialists behind the wheel through 2027 while Waymo teaches the Waymo Driver local road geometry and monsoon weather. The rollout runs with Singapore's Ministry of Transport and Land Transport Authority, and still needs LTA approval of the driving system plus a safety assessment at the CETRAN test centre before any passenger can ride.
