Pentagon review cites overreliance on Palantir Maven

Bloomberg reported, citing officials involved in a Pentagon investigation, that stale intelligence, dated imagery, civilian-harm staffing cuts, and overreliance on Palantir's Maven Smart System contributed to a February 28 Tomahawk strike on Shajarah Tayyebeh Elementary School in Minab, Iran, that killed 123 children. Officials said some CENTCOM personnel expected Maven, which fuses more than 150 data sources, to flag stale or inconsistent intelligence as planners compressed target-list work from hours into minutes ahead of more than 1,000 first-day strikes. Palantir said it is not responsible for the underlying data or for identifying intelligence deficiencies and that there is no evidence its software was at fault; a person familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that after the strike the company added Maven tools to re-review intelligence for disqualifying factors and inconsistencies.
