Waymo resumes San Antonio rides after flood pause

Waymo said on September 17 it has resumed paid autonomous rides in San Antonio, including trips to and from San Antonio International Airport, after pausing passenger service following an April flood in which an empty vehicle entered a flooded lane. The company said it audited flood zones, added location limits in high-risk areas, adjusted weather alerts, and improved the Waymo Driver's ability to detect and leave floodwaters, work it said had already been tested in other cities that kept running this summer. Severe weather can still trigger another pause; San Antonio Current reported that new riders remain on a waitlist rather than booking like Austin Uber users.
