Google opens SynthID Detector to the public
On Oct. 7, 2026 Google DeepMind opened SynthID Detector globally in English so anyone can check whether an image, video, or audio file was made with AI from Google or partners including OpenAI, Nvidia, and Kakao, with Apple listed as coming soon. Google said it has watermarked more than 180 billion images and videos and 240,000 years of audio since SynthID launched in 2023. The detector joins verification features in Search, the Gemini app, and Chrome.
