Judge orders OpenAI to expedite Apple hiring records

On October 13, 2026, Judge Edward J. Davila partly granted Apple expedited discovery in its trade-secret suit against OpenAI, io Products, and former Apple employees Chang Liu and Tang Yew Tan, case 5:26-cv-07078-EJD. The order requires forensic images already collected, Consumer Hardware and Robotics interview materials, and LINE messages between Liu and Alyssa Peng since January 1, 2026, within five days if already collected and 14 days otherwise. The court denied expedited discovery into metal finishes, power management, and battery research, and it did not find that trade secrets were taken.
