BioNTech says BNT113 missed its progression-free survival goal
On October 13, 2026 BioNTech said the Phase 2/3 AHEAD-MERIT trial missed its progression-free survival goal for BNT113 plus pembrolizumab versus pembrolizumab alone in first-line unresectable recurrent or metastatic HPV16-positive head and neck cancer. An independent committee recommended the trial continue to overall survival, which can still count as a positive result under the pre-specified design. The company said it remains blinded to the ongoing data and did not publish a progression-free survival figure.
