Rivian cuts hundreds of jobs a week after R2 launch

Rivian confirmed on June 16 that it is laying off hundreds of workers - under 2% of its workforce, or up to roughly 300 roles - concentrated in its service, sales and marketing teams rather than R2 production. The EV maker framed the cuts as a restructuring of 'a handful of teams' to profitably scale its business, coming just a week after it opened R2 orders and began deliveries. It is at least the fourth round of layoffs Rivian has made since the start of 2024 as it pushes toward profitability.
