Commonwealth Fusion joins UK's tritium-breeding program

Commonwealth Fusion Systems said on July 1 it has become the first international partner in the UK Atomic Energy Authority's Lithium Breeding Tritium Innovation (LIBRTI) program, a £220 million government initiative to demonstrate net tritium production for fusion power. The deal gives CFS early access to world-leading blanket-testing infrastructure, including a large-scale high-flux neutron source at UKAEA's Culham Campus in Oxfordshire. Tritium fuel self-sufficiency is one of the biggest unsolved challenges standing between demonstration reactors and commercial fusion plants.
