FAA moves to waive environmental reviews for rocket launches
US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced on July 28 a proposed FAA rule that would let the agency waive requirements under 13 federal environmental statutes, including the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, and parts of the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts, when licensing commercial launches and reentries. The proposal, aimed at speeding up approvals for companies including SpaceX and Blue Origin, keeps core public-safety and national-security reviews in place and is subject to a 30-day public comment period.
