BioNTech names Guido Oelkers as CEO, succeeding Sahin
BioNTech's Supervisory Board announced on August 3 the appointment of Guido Oelkers, CEO of Swedish Orphan Biovitrum (Sobi) since 2017, as the company's next Chief Executive Officer, taking office by February 1, 2027 at the latest. He succeeds co-founder Ugur Sahin, who said in March 2026 that he and his wife and co-founder, chief medical officer Ozlem Tureci, would depart to launch a new mRNA-medicines biotech; a successor for Tureci's role is still being sought.
