Tesla plans driverless thruster demo for redesigned Roadster
The Information reported on August 14 that Tesla is preparing to unveil the redesigned Roadster as soon as this month at SpaceX's rocket test site in McGregor, Texas, with a limited-edition version lifting off the pavement using roughly ten SpaceX-built cold-gas thrusters mounted where the rear seats would sit. The demonstration car will be remotely operated with nobody inside because the thrusters are loud enough to risk hearing injury, and spectators will be kept a few hundred yards back. Tesla is expected to show two variants, a road-legal standard Roadster and the thruster-equipped edition, which reporting says will not be street legal.
