FDA approves Pfizer-BioNTech's XFG-adapted COVID vaccine

The FDA approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine reformulated to target the XFG variant for the 2026-2027 season on August 27, covering adults 65 and older and people ages 5-64 with at least one underlying condition that puts them at high risk for severe disease. The approval follows the European Commission's July 29 authorization of the same XFG-adapted formulation, and shipping to the US began immediately.
