OSHA data shows Waymo, Zoox test drivers hurt by hard braking

Reporting published around August 27, 2026 based on OSHA filings found more than two dozen injuries, including sprains, whiplash and back pain, among Waymo and Zoox safety-test drivers in 2024 and 2025, caused by the vehicles' autonomous software braking hard or swerving suddenly. Transdev, which employs and manages Waymo's test drivers, reported 16 injuries tied to Waymo depot locations across three cities, with incidents concentrated in Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco; both companies said they take employee safety seriously and continue refining vehicle behavior based on the reports.
