Holtec pauses Palisades fuel loading after a tipped assembly

The NRC confirmed on September 21, 2026 that it is reviewing a tipped fuel assembly at Holtec's Palisades restart in Covert, Michigan. Holtec said the assembly tilted from upright on August 30 after the fuel-handling machine had already released it, and that fuel loading remains paused while it prepares a license amendment for retrieval. NRC spokeswoman Viktoria Mitlyng said the assembly was not dropped, there was no radiological release, and workers and the public were not affected.
