NRC approves a one-time lift for a tilted Palisades assembly
On October 13, 2026 the NRC issued Amendment No. 283 to the Palisades renewed license, effective immediately, so Holtec licensee Palisades Energy can use a one-time alternative method to move fuel assembly DD41 from the reactor cavity to the spent fuel pool and resume fuel loading. The amendment must be implemented within 10 days. The American Nuclear Society, citing the license request, said the assembly tilted about 30 degrees on August 30 after the refueling machine released it and that fuel loading has been stalled. The NRC issuance does not say the lift has been completed.
