Magnitude 7.1 quake hits Kumamoto, TSMC's JASM fab resumes
A magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Japan's Kumamoto region at about 4:27 p.m. local time on July 27, prompting TSMC to evacuate its Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing (JASM) fab under standard safety protocols. TSMC said all employees were accounted for and safe, and post-quake structural inspections found the fab unaffected, with operations gradually resuming from July 28 in what was the first major earthquake to hit JASM since the majority TSMC-owned joint venture began production in 2024.
