OpenAI's first consumer hardware device, developed with Jony Ive following the ~$6.5B acquisition of io — a screenless, voice-first AI 'companion' intended to complement the smartphone. Not yet launched.
OpenAI has said its first io device is on track to be announced in the second half of 2026, with reporting pointing to a pocketable or wearable form factor; some accounts suggest shipping could slip toward early 2027.
