Tesla continues to sell Model 3 in Standard, Premium (RWD/AWD), and Performance configurations, with the current U.S. page highlighting the Standard trim ($36,990) as the lower-cost entry point into the lineup. As of late August 2026, new orders for the Standard trim show a delivery window stretched to January-March 2027 (from 4-5 weeks in late July) after inventory sold out amid a surge in demand tied to California's new MyFirstEV first-time-buyer rebate.

Tesla's Powershare page now says Home Backup is available for new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles ordered in the U.S. and Puerto Rico on or after Oct. 1, 2026, not only Cybertruck. With Powerwall 3 and a Wall Connector, the cars can extend home backup by more than two days at 30 kWh per day; Tesla says some older Model 3 and Model Y vehicles have the hardware, Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+ support is still coming, and Model 3 and Model Y cannot sell power to the grid.
Tesla produced 464,391 vehicles and delivered 486,532 in the third quarter of 2026, according to its Oct. 2 production bulletin furnished to the SEC. Deliveries were 2.1% below the 497,099 vehicles of Q3 2025 and above the 480,126 of Q2; Model 3/Y accounted for 478,237 deliveries and other models 8,295. Tesla deployed 13.7 GWh of energy storage and said it will post Q3 financial results after the close on Oct. 21.
Tesla China said on September 7, 2026 that inventory Model 3 and Model Y vehicles ordered and delivered by September 30 will get cash incentives of 5,000 yuan and 10,000 yuan respectively, covering the full lineups including Performance and Model Y L. Some Model 3 trims can also apply for an 8,000 yuan insurance subsidy. After the listed benefits, Tesla said Model 3 starts at 222,500 yuan and Model Y at 253,500 yuan.
China's market regulator announced on August 21 a nationwide recall covering more than 4 million vehicles from Tesla and at least eight other automakers over electrically controlled door handles that can fail to release in a crash, hindering escape and rescue efforts. Tesla's share covers 2.98 million imported and China-made Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X vehicles; the remedy includes warning labels and a software update that automatically lowers windows after a collision, with the recall set to begin September 25.
NHTSA announced August 11 that Tesla is recalling 20,349 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, mostly 2020-2023 Model Y (18,735) plus 2017-2023 Model 3 (1,614), after finding low-beam headlights exceeded the federal brightness limit by as much as 84% in one test zone, which can impair oncoming drivers. Tesla had asked NHTSA to treat the issue as inconsequential, but the agency rejected that request in July; no fix has yet been identified and recall notices are scheduled to go out September 15.
NHTSA opened a Preliminary Evaluation on July 31, 2026 into roughly 1.2 million Tesla Model 3 (2018-2020) and Model Y (2021-2023) vehicles over front lower lateral link failures, after receiving 156 complaints of sudden, unwarned loss of directional control. NHTSA said it is not aware of any related crashes, injuries, or fatalities; the investigation is a precursor step that can lead to a recall.
Tesla delivered 480,126 vehicles in the second quarter of 2026, up about 25% year over year and roughly 74,000 above Wall Street's consensus, snapping two years of declining deliveries and setting a new second-quarter record. Production topped 450,000 vehicles, with Model 3/Y accounting for 467,762 of deliveries and other models 12,364, while energy storage deployments reached 13.5 GWh. Tesla will report full second-quarter financial results after the market close on July 22.
Tesla released its compiled analyst consensus on June 27 ahead of second-quarter delivery figures due around July 2, with 21 analysts averaging about 406,000 vehicles - roughly 392,700 Model 3/Y and about 13,000 other models - a 12% sequential gain over Q1. A separate 17-analyst energy consensus pegged storage deployments at 13.8 GWh, up 36% from Q1's 8.8 GWh. Tesla showed the next-generation Roadster on 15 October 2026 at a SpaceX test site near Waco. The company page lists three configurations: a road-ready two-seat car by reservation, a limited-release two-seat car with rear cold-gas thrusters that Tesla says goes from 0-60 mph in under 1 second, and an invite-only one-seat Rocket trim with perimeter cold-gas thrusters. Tesla says the Rocket trim can fly and is not approved for public road use, and that it is not available in all regions. Musk said production in 2028. CNBC said no purchase price was announced and that $50,000 deposits had reopened. TechCrunch said the site showed a $250,000 reservation for the thruster trim.
